Roti bagelan (bagelan bread)

Roti bagelan is famous snack from Bandung, West Java. Crispy bread spreading with butter and sugar. I have to much left over bun and started get boring to eat with jam. I do remember my beloved mom she always creative to reproduce something was left in the kitchen. And here is one of her idea, instead throwing the buns you can make simple snack and for sure nothing left ! Enjoy ur evening tea with bagelan bread ;)

-buns ( i used left over but not yet expired)
-unsalted butter (room temperature)
-sugar for sprinkle

Cut the buns into two then spread with butter and sprinkle all over the bread with sugar
baked in the oven until golden colour and crispy.

Jewish Challah



Challah is traditional bread of Jewish was eaten on Jewish sabbath and on all Jewish holiday. A symbolic act, with a blessing recited when the dough is thrown into the fire or discarded. It is customary to eat three meals begin with blessing of loaves bread. Traditional recipes used a large number of eggs, white flour, and sugar. Modern recipes tend eggless and replace white flour with whole wheat, oat, or spelt flour. Sometimes honey or molasses is substituted as a sweetener. The dough is rolled into rope- shaped pieces which is braided before baking and brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.



Nana (http://masak-enak-makan-enak.blogspot.com/) she introduced me this bread last time and i have interest to baked my own. Even no egg added the breads was really soft and moist. Thanks Nana really i was happy because my hubs enjoying the bread while just out from the oven. He said my bread was great, how do yo think friends??

Ingredients:

1 kg Bread Flour, 2 Tablespoons Yeast, 6 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon salt, 1/2 cup Oil. 450 ml warm water, 1 Egg, Sesame seeds

Directions:- mix all ingredients in a big bowl except Egg & Sesam seeds, then knead it until good smooth dough has been achieved.- Place the dough in a bowl and let it rise for 1 hour. During 1 hour, punch & knead the dough in every 15 minutes.- Then, divide dough into your desired amount of loaves then divide each piece into 3 and start braiding- Place the braids on a baking sheet covered with baking paper- Brush with egg & then sprinkle with sesam seeds, let it rise for another 30 minutes- preheated oven for 150 C & bake the braids fo 30 minutes

Roti gambang ( gambang bread)

My kitchen was off for aweek, since there was 2 new shopping mall near by from our apartment, iam too busy window shopped *_* Finally i have day off yesterday, and started re open my kitchen hehehehhe. This is Indonesian traditional quick bread, when i was little girl roti gambang has been famous to acommpanion your tea time. Perfect with a cup of tea or coffe ;)



Just for variation, form the dough into round shaped then add grated cheese and rolled it, cut 6 cm lenght and baked.



250 g Java red sugar, grated (i dont have java sugar so i used palm sugar)
175 ml water
500 g all purpose flour
25 g milk powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp spekoek ( special essence for layer cake or u can subtitute with cinnamon)
1/4 tsp vanilla powder/vanilla extract
50 gr margarin/ butter
3 Tbsp water, for brushing
5 Tbsp sesame seeds

Instruction:

Boil Java red sugar with water until dissolved. Set aside and let cool.
Mix flour, milk powder, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, vanilla and egg yolks. Blend well. Pour in sugar syrup, knead until well blended.
Blend in margarine, knead until well blended.
For the dough into ball shaped, cover with pastic sheet. Set aside for about 30 minutes at room temperature until the dough becomes dry and easy to roll.
Uncover, form the dough into round oval shape, each weighed 50 g. Arrange in greased cookie sheet, give space as they will rise. Brush the with water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake in a preheated oven at 150 Celsius degree for 30 minutes until done.

(Homemades) sweet buns



After chat with my friend "Lily" i have encouraged to make homemades bread again, she gave me easy recipe to follow. After somany time have failed evidently my sacrifice was successfull my bread expanded complatey and very moist even in the next day, although the shaped not pretty good but i was happy :D Here bread was easy to be obtained in supermaket but was not mistakenly tried to make homemades bread its fresh from your oven! Many thanks to Lily, without her couraged maybe am never know that making bread was not horrible :D

Bread flour 150 gr, cake flour 150 gr, yeast 5 gr, milk 125 ml, salt 1/2 tsp, egg 1,
butter 50 gr, castor sugar 60 gr, Extra 1 egg for glazing.

1. Mix all the ingiderents then fold into egg and butter.
2. Knead on a floured surface for 20-25 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
3. Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease the surface of dough.
4. Cover with cling plastic, let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
5. divided dough into 9 balls then put filling and shape into ball and place on a greased baking pan. Cover; let rise another 15-20 minutes.
6. Glaze the dough with egg
7. Bake for 20-35 minutes in a preheated 350 degrees oven, or until golden brown.
Cool on a wire rack.

For filling option: chocolate, cheese, jam, but i used abon :D (Indonesian beef mixture)
